Planning Information

The N.C. Trauma System has been in development since 1978. In 2008 the Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS), the N.C. Committee on Trauma, the N.C. State Trauma Advisory Council, the North Carolina Division of the American Trauma Society, and many other associations joined forces to begin a collaborative movement to strengthen the trauma system by completing a list of critical tasks. As of January 2009 the following critical tasks have been completed:

Progress has been made toward these goals and will continue to move forward to reach a system that includes everything from prevention to rehabilitation services for all injured North Carolina citizens and visitors.

Five Year Trauma Plan

American Trauma Society

The American Trauma Society (ATS) was founded in 1968 and is the leading national organization dedicated to both reducing preventable injuries and improving trauma care. It promotes trauma prevention and the establishment of trauma systems as the principal ways to reduce the toll of trauma.

The North Carolina Division of the American Trauma Society was first chartered in 1989.
