Designated Trauma Centers

A designated trauma center is a local facility voluntarily meeting the state's guidelines for care of the injured patient. Currently North Carolina has 11 designated trauma centers across the state. Each of the state's centers has the responsibility of providing care, development and support of a regional trauma system. Here you can find information related to trauma center designation.

*Dates signify first year of state designation. Centers are revisited three years after their first state designation. Thereafter, they must go through a state renewal visit every four years. However, if they also wish to seek/maintain American College of Surgeons (ACS) verification/reverification, the hospitals will probably seek a renewal visit (coupled with an ACS visit) every three years to address the three year review requirement set by the ACS.
