On this page is all the information one needs to apply for Assisted Living Administrator Certification.
The Alternative Exam is given to those employees who do not have their high school diploma or GED and wish to become a supervisor-in-charge, administrator-in-charge or activity director. The Administrator Exam is one of the requirements for becoming an assisted living administrator or family care home administrator. Please note that this exam is not the only requirement for becoming an approved administrator.

Test site locations: Test site locations and times are subject to change. Please refer to the schedule (PDF, 22 KB) for test times and locations and for updates on test sites, also visit our medication testing website.
Inclement Weather: Testing will be canceled if weather conditions are considered hazardous for local travel or for commuting. Information on cancellations may be obtained: (1) by logging on to the medication testing website (2) by calling the Voice Response System 919-733-7615 or; (3) by calling the Adult Care Licensure Section in Raleigh at 919-855-3793.
Registration: Pre-registration is not available for the administrator or alternative exam. Spaces are limited at each test site. A valid photo ID is required, ie. Driver's license, passports and military identification. You must be on time in order to take the test. You should arrive at the test site at least 30 minutes prior to the test time. You must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the test time to complete a registration form and to see if space is available. Once testing has begun, no one will be admitted into the testing area.
