The North Carolina State Medical Facilities Plan is an annual document which contains policies and methodologies used in determining need for new health care facilities and services in North Carolina. The plan also contains background information on the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council, on the annual planning cycle, and general policies related to implementing the planning cycle.

The following Proposed 2010 and approved plans for 2009 and earlier are available to view, print or download free of charge. Printed copies of the Proposed 2010 Plan are not being produced. If you wish to order a printed copy of the 2009 or earlier plans, please complete the respective order forms (see links below) and submit with your payment.

Please note the following changes.

The September 16, 2009, Acute Care Services Committee meeting has been cancelled and the meeting has been rescheduled for September 23 at 10 a.m. The meeting location has also been changed. The September 23 Acute Care Services Committee meeting will be held in Room 201 of the Council Building, 701 Barbour Drive, in Raleigh.

The October 9, 2009, SHCC Meeting will not be held at the McKimmon Center. This meeting will be held at the Wake County Commons Building [Directions], located at 4011 Carya Drive, Raleigh, NC.

Regarding 2009 and prior electronic versions of the SMFP, text and chart content is identical to the printed copies, but conversion to the pdf format sometimes results in page shifting so that page numbers do not always match. The order in which content is presented is identical, but some of the material jumps to either the preceding or next sequential page.
