N.C. Council for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing

The North Carolina Legislature established the North Carolina Council for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (NCCDHH) in 1990 to advise the N.C. Department of Human Resources (now called the Department of Health and Human Services) and the Department of Public Instruction on matters pertaining to services provided to deaf and hard of hearing citizens. The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services has delegated the responsibility Members of NC Council in a meetingof providing clerical and other support services for the Council to the Division of Services for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing.

Two North Carolina statutes govern the N.C. Council for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing.

In 2003, the General Assembly passed a bill amending the original Council Legislation. The act amends the laws relating to the Council for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing by increasing the members on the Council and changing the appointing authority for two of the members.
