Consumer Guide to Purchasing Hearing Aids

Brochure and Check List

Purchasing hearing aids can be a stressful experience and more complicated than purchasing a new car.

To make the process of buying hearing aids easier for North Carolinians with hearing loss, a brochure and a checklist are now available: “North Carolina Consumers’ Guide on Hearing Aids” and “North Carolina Consumers’ Checklist to Purchasing Hearing Aids.”   In addition to being available through this website, they are now being distributed to consumers across the state.

For more information on hearing loss and treatment through hearing aid technology or for options other than hearing aids, please contact the DSDHH Regional Center serving your county of residence.

The brochure and checklist were developed by a task force composed of representatives of two licensure boards monitoring hearing aid sales, a representative of the NC Division of Services for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (DSDHH), advocates, consumers, audiologist, and hearing aid dispensers. This task force was established as a result of legislation introduced in response to a 2009 report by DSDHH on “The Impact of Hearing Loss on Older Adults in North Carolina.”
