The Information Technology (IT) Support unit of the Division of Social Services is responsible for supporting the business functions of the Division by providing IT services and support. This includes budgetary and fiscal matters relating to both the Division's and County Departments of Social Services' (DSS) IT operations. It coordinates telecommunication budgetary and planning support for 100 county DSS operations as well as state child support offices. It insures that timely and quality support is provided by the Networking Services section of the Division of Information Resource Management (DIRM). It provides business advice and consultation to counties on hardware and software purchases, Local Area Network (LAN) planning, and use of technology such as electronic mail and the Internet. It monitors and controls county IT purchases as required by federal agencies and provides information to counties on federal reimbursement policies and procedures.
The IT Support unit is responsible for working with Networking Services to insure effective management and administration of the main LAN in the Albemarle Building and Child Support Enforcement office LANs. It provides budgetary and fiscal oversight of hardware and software purchases and leases. It also provides special internal support to the Division for complex presentations, desktop publishing, and very large word processing tasks. The unit maintains the Division's extensive web site and serves as a liaison to DIRM and Information Technology Services (ITS) for technical modifications. In addition to Division and Child Support Offices, the unit handles business matters for the IT support of 75 home based staff.
