Workplace Violence

Course Description

This two-hour training session covers the basics of workplace violence including recognition, prevention, and reaction procedures. DHHS offers an online class and some divisions, facilities, and schools offer traditional classroom sessions.


General Course Objectives

  • To define and promote an awareness and better understanding of workplace violence.
  • To recognize behavior that may be warning signs of potential violence.
  • To identify circumstances and situations in the workplace that may contribute to workplace violence.
  • To identify strategies to prevent workplace violence and to understand the responsibility of managers and supervisors to adopt behavior that reduces the potential for violence.
  • To explain the DHHS Workplace Violence Prevention Policy -- Preventing Workplace Violence and to familiarize supervisors with the Federal Laws (OSHA) outlining management's responsibility to prevent and protect employees from workplace violence.
  • To explain the role of the Crisis Management Team and outline procedures for documenting and reporting threats of violence or policy violations.
  • To identify additional internal and external resources for assessing and/or dealing with situations.

Intended Audience:
Open to all managers and frontline supervisors.

Instructor(s):
Various instructors in the supervisor's division, facility, or school teach the classroom sessions.
