Staff Pay Information
Example 1
10
or 11 Month Educator
A teacher is hired at the annual salary
rate of $25,000 per year. Even though she works
just 10 or 11 months, she will be paid every
month throughout the year. Calculations:
- $25,000 ÷ 12 = $2083 per month
- She receives $2083 per month (even through
the summer month(s) when she is not working.)

Example 2
10 Month Educator
Starting Work After August 1st
A $25,000 10-month/year teacher starts work
on September 1st. His monthly rate of pay is
still calculated by dividing $25,000 by 12, so he
receives $2083 per month through May. Since he is
working only 11 months, however, his last month's
pay must be adjusted in the following way:
- He has receved 9 months of his 12 months
of pay by the end of May (paid Sept. through
May).
$2083 x 9 = $18,747
- His contract is for 10 months
per year, so he is due only his yearly salary
prorated over 10 months.
His final month's pay must be adjusted for this difference.
- $25,000 ÷ 10 = $2500 per month
(monthly amount due)
- $2500 x 9 (Sept.-May) = $22,500 (total
amount due)
- $22,500 - $18,747 = $3753 (difference
between amount due and amount received
as of May, his actual final month of teaching)
- For June, he receives his regular $2083
pay.
- For July, he is only entitled to
the remaining balance of his 10 month pay,
so he will receive the balance by calculating:
$3753 (total contract pay due following his
May paycheck) - $2083 (amount received
in June)
= $1670
(check to be issued in July as the "balance
of contract" pay)

rate of $25,000 per year for 10 months' work.

- $25,000 ÷ 10 = $2500 per month
- She receives $2500 per month during the
10 months that she works for the school and
receives no pay through the summer
months when she is not
