Information
for individuals seeking restoration of a license after a conviction of
driving while impaired or driving while less than 21 years of age after
consuming alcohol or drugs in the state of North Carolina.
The
State of North Carolina requires that any individual convicted of
driving while impaired or driving while less than 21 years old after
consuming alcohol or drugs in the state to obtain a certificate of
completion as a condition of license restoration, per G.S. 20-17.6 (b)
In
order to obtain a certificate of completion, the individual must have a
substance abuse assessment and complete an education course or
substance abuse treatment per G.S. 20-17.6 (c)
Per
G.S. 122C-142.1 (g), An individual convicted of one of the above
mentioned charges may complete services (assessment and education or
treatment) in their home state to meet the requirements of the state of
North Carolina. After services are completed in the individual's home
state, documentation pertaining to those services will need to be
reviewed by an authorized DWI service provider in the State of North
Carolina. The North Carolina provider will utilize the documentation to
generate paperwork that is required by our state to clear the "stop" of
the license.
Anyone in need
of services may locate an authorized North Carolina DWI service
provider by visiting www.ncdwiservices.org. It suggested that you
contact a North Carolina provider before you begin your services, so
that you will be clear as to what our requirements are. Any questions
pertaining to this process may be directed to D. Jason Reynolds, DWI
Program Consultant, Office of Driving While Impaired Services.
