RALEIGH—Members of the public are invited to comment on the services that will be provided through the federal Child Care and Development Fund during the upcoming 2011-2013 period. The Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) provides a block grant funding to states in order to support early care and education services.

The purpose of the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) is to increase the availability, affordability and quality of early care and education services throughout North Carolina. The CCDF grant gives States the opportunity to develop child care programs and policies to meet the needs of the children and families served within the state. CCDF funds are used to support North Carolina’s child care Regulatory and Licensing system, which ensures the health and safety of children in early care and education settings. A minimum of 4 % of the funds are used toward quality initiatives, that support families with children in child care, as well as the child care workforce. For example, these funds provide support for:

  • child care resource and referral services for families
  • supports to improve the education levels of the child care workforce
  • technical assistance and training for child care teachers
  • the North Carolina Star Rated License System

The North Carolina Subsidized Child Care Program provides funding to support the child care needs of nearly 150,000 children each year. The projected amount of funding through CCDF for fiscal year 2012-2013 is approximately $175 million.
