Watch now:

Starting Monday, North Carolina is changing its Medicaid billing and claims system with a new online system called NCTracks.

NCTracks is designed to process and pay more than $12 billion each year in health care claims for the more than 70,000 enrolled medical providers that serve more than 1.5 million Medicaid recipients.

The Web-based system will switch providers from paper to digital claims submission processes. At least 57 paper forms will be eliminated as a result of the transition and processing times are expected to shorten.

Health care providers are required to register their information with the NCTracks system, but state officials say only 50 percent of providers have signed up.

The current Medicaid claims system has been in place for 35 years.
