Mardy Peal, DHHS Senior Advisor to the Secretary, discussed Governor McCrory's N.C. Medicaid reform plan on WFAE's Charlotte Talks. Ms. Peal was joined by Bob Seligson of the NC Medical Society and Bob Seehausen of Novant. The panel, hosted by Michael Tomsic, explored the key components of the reform plan, focusing on the patient-centric, provider-led Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model.
"ACOs change the incentives," said Ms. Peal. "Those providers who are rendering the care agree to be accountable for the cost of the care ... [and] they are also on the hook for maintaining appropriate quality."
