DHHS Shoutouts: OCME Epidemiologist Named Bloomberg Fellow; Cumberland County DSS Director Honored; and More

Alison Miller

Alison Miller of the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was named a 2018 Bloomberg Fellow. Alison is the epidemiologist for the OCME, part of the Division of Public Health, and was selected to focus on addiction and overdose. The program will support Miller's work as a Master of Public Health student at Johns Hopkins University and enable the OCME - where Alison will continue working full-time - to collaborate with other organizations working to address issues relating to addiction and overdose in the U.S. 

 

 

 

Brenda Reid Jackson

Cumberland County Department of Social Services Director Brenda Reid Jackson was recently named the 2018 DSS Director of the Year by the North Carolina Association of County Directors of Social Services. Jackson, who has over 30 years of experience as a social services leader, was appointed Cumberland County DSS director in 2008. According to Cumberland County, under Jackson’s direction DSS has “developed and implemented strategic goals focused on forward thinking, innovation, automation and cutting-edge service delivery through collaborative work with customers, community partners and employees.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Angela Smith

 

Angela Smith, Director of Pharmacy for the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities, authored a research study developing metrics for pharmacy staffing, workload and productivity benchmarks in state psychiatric hospitals that was recently published in the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. Dr. Smith was also elected to serve a four-year term as a Minnesota Multistate Contracting Alliance for Pharmacy (MMCAP) Advisory Board Member, the national group purchasing organization in which North Carolina participates.
