Whole Child Health Section

The Whole Child Health Section addresses physical and behavioral health needs from birth and through the course of childhood. The programs in this section are dedicated to helping North Carolina’s children grow and thrive.

Genetics and Newborn Screening

The Genetics and Newborn Screening Unit provides population-based services for newborn hearing screening and follow-up, newborn bloodspot screening follow-up, speech and hearing disorders, and genetic conditions through training, education, consultation, technical assistance and direct services in collaboration with a strong network of public and private partners.

Best Practices

The Best Practices Unit provides leadership, training, consultation, technical and data assistance to assure that children receive health and related services that are evidence-based, consistent with current practice standards and are delivered in an effective and efficient manner with an emphasis on children and youth with special health care needs

Child Behavioral Health

The Child Behavioral Health Team uses a coordinated network of community services and supports called a Systems of Care framework to help meet the challenges that children with behavioral health challenges and their families face in their daily lives.

School, Adolescent and Child Health

The School, Adolescent, and Child Health Unit supports the whole-child approach with a focus in schools, school health centers, child health and care management programs in local health departments and community settings.

Child and Family Wellness

The Child and Family Wellness Unit works to enhance the health and safety of young children through evidence-based/informed practices.
