For the second straight fiscal year, the North Carolina Medicaid program ended the year with cash on hand. Year-end results will be released when the budget close-out process is finalized.
"As a result of the dedication to responsible budgeting practices by Governor McCrory and the General Assembly together with improved forecasting and management by the Department of Health and Human Services, North Carolina's Medicaid budget is in far better shape," said Secretary Aldona Wos, M.D. "Finishing with cash on hand for a second consecutive year is an indication that we continue to make progress in strengthening our state's Medicaid program."
Prior to the past two fiscal years, the Medicaid program experienced shortfalls of nearly $2 billion over a four year period.
