The NC Office of Rural Health (ORH) has received a one-time $1 million grant from Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust to support health care providers in 34 FEMA-identified counties affected by Hurricane Florence.
ORH is requesting applications from rural health centers and non-profit rural health clinics, federally qualified health centers, free and charitable clinics, health departments, school-based health centers, critical access hospitals and small rural hospitals who have service sites in the following disaster-affected counties: Anson, Beaufort, Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Chatham, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Duplin, Durham, Greene, Guilford, Harnett, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Orange, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Union, Wayne and Wilson.
The grant will provide up to $50,000 per application for infrastructure-related capital needs, emergency supplies and equipment to sustain services during emergencies and natural disasters. Applicants can request funding for equipment such as generators, sump pumps and systems to keep vaccines and medications at required temperatures.
Supplies eligible for funding may include propane and gasoline, protective equipment, cleaning materials, hygiene kits, first aid kits, flashlights and plastic storage bins. The grant may also be used to fund medication storage areas, to stock blood pressure medications and insulin and to address infrastructure needs such as wall or roof repairs and carpet replacement.

ORH supports safety net health care providers in rural and underserved areas of North Carolina, who offer access to care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay.
