The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services kicks off the Know Before You Go campaign today, a statewide initiative reminding North Carolinians to stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccines and boosters in time for the start of the 2022-2023 school year, fall festivities, large gatherings and end-of-year celebrations and holidays.
The campaign also promotes information on COVID-19 testing and treatment, and it reminds North Carolinians of their rights to both services, with or without identification and insurance.
"Know Before You Go is a reminder to communities that as we send kids back to school and head into fall activities, it’s important to stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccines and boosters and have access to testing and treatment," said NCDHHS Secretary Kody H. Kinsley.
The campaign furthers the state’s continued public outreach and engagement to prevent severe illness, hospitalization and death related to COVID-19 by encouraging people to get a safe, effective and free vaccine or booster.
To date, more than 185 public and independent K-12 schools across 50 counties throughout the state have signed up for the campaign. With a reach of more than 260,000 students, schools will receive flyers, posters and other items reminding students, their parents, educators, administrators and others to get all recommended COVID-19 vaccines and boosters when eligible.
In addition to North Carolina K-12 schools, more than 30 local health departments, community-based organizations and local radio and television stations have registered to participate.
Radio stations will receive a Know Before You Go flyer, anti-bacterial wipes and MySpot.nc.gov drawstring backpacks to distribute at their back-to-school supply giveaway events.
While the launch of Know Before You Go focuses on back to school and COVID-19 prevention, the campaign will help provide guidance and information about other communicable diseases.
"Whether it's COVID-19, mental health and well-being or other public health needs, every North Carolinian should have easy access to the information they need to know to protect themselves and others before they go about their daily routines," Secretary Kinsley said.

El Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos de Carolina del Norte lanzó hoy la campaña Cuídate, una iniciativa estatal que recuerda a los habitantes de Carolina del Norte que se mantengan informados sobre las vacunas y las dosis de refuerzo contra el COVID-19 justo a tiempo para el inicio del año escolar 2022-2023, las festividades de otoño, las reuniones grandes y las celebraciones y días festivos de fin de año.
La campaña también promueve información sobre las pruebas y los tratamientos contra el COVID-19, y les recuerda a los habitantes de Carolina del Norte de sus derechos a ambos servicios, con o sin tener identificación y seguro médico.
"La campaña Cuídate es un recordatorio para las comunidades que, a medida que enviamos a los niños de regreso a la escuela y nos dirigimos a las actividades de otoño, es importante mantenerse al día con las vacunas y las dosis de refuerzo contra el COVID-19 y tener acceso a las pruebas y el tratamiento", dijo el secretario del NCDHHS, Kody H. Kinsley.
La campaña promueve el alcance a la comunidad y continua el compromiso del estado para prevenir enfermedades graves, hospitalizaciones y muertes relacionadas con el COVID-19 motivando a las personas a recibir una vacuna o una dosis de refuerzo segura, efectiva y gratuita.
Hasta la fecha, más de 185 escuelas K-12 públicas e independientes en 50 condados de todo el estado se han inscrito en la campaña. Con un alcance de más de 260,000 estudiantes, las escuelas recibirán folletos, carteles y otros artículos que les recordarán a los estudiantes, sus padres, educadores, administradores y otras personas a que reciban todas las vacunas y las dosis de refuerzo recomendadas contra el COVID-19 cuando sean elegibles.
Además de las escuelas K-12 de Carolina del Norte, más de 30 departamentos de salud locales, organizaciones comunitarias y estaciones de radio y televisión locales se han registrado para participar.
Las estaciones de radio recibirán toallitas antibacteriales de Cuídate y mochilas de Vacunate.nc.gov para distribuir en sus eventos de entrega de artículos para el regreso a la escuela.
Aunque el lanzamiento de Cuídate se enfoca en el regreso a la escuela y la prevención del COVID-19, la campaña ayudará a brindar orientación e información sobre otras enfermedades transmisibles.
"Ya sea el COVID-19, la salud mental y el bienestar u otra necesidad de salud pública, todos los habitantes de Carolina del Norte deben tener acceso fácil a la información que necesitan saber para protegerse a sí mismos y a los demás antes de continuar con sus rutinas diarias", dijo el secretario Kinsley.
