North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and state leaders will attend the State Medical Response System Showcase on Feb. 1, 2024, to discuss the importance of the state medical emergency response team partnership and tour emergency response assets. Event participants will give a brief presentation beginning at 2 p.m., which will be immediately followed by a tour and media availability.

The event will feature the following participants:

  • Kody H. Kinsley, Secretary, NCDHHS
  • William Ray, Director, NC Emergency Management, NCDPS
  • David Ezzell, Operations Manager, NC Office of Emergency Medical Services, NCDHHS

The crucial partnership between state medical emergency response teams helps the state to prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters that affect North Carolina residents. The State Medical Response System Showcase will display various emergency response assets deployed by the state for intensive support during times of emergencies including hurricanes and other natural disasters, and respiratory illness surges like what was used during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Assets that will be displayed at the showcase include mobile medical units for emergency departments and in-patient treatment spaces, a mobile incident command post, a mobile morgue support unit, a mobile lab unit and more. Similar assets have recently been deployed in multiple counties across the state for hospital surge support during the peak of respiratory virus illnesses. Other deployments include Monoclonal Administration Sites and Vaccine Clinics throughout multiple counties in 2022, the Grady Hospital Flooding Incident in Atlanta, Georgia, from late-2019 to mid-2020, and Ocracoke for Hurricane Dorian in 2019.
