WIC Program Historical Data
Surveillance Reports
North Carolina maintained four separate surveillance systems to monitor nutrition and physical activity known as Pregnancy Nutrition Surveillance System (PNSS), Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System (PedNSS), North Carolina Child Health Assessment and Monitoring Program (NC CHAMP), and North Carolina Nutrition and Physical Activity Surveillance System (NC NPASS).
At the time of data collection and reporting, the Community Nutrition Services Section, which is now part of the Division of Child and Family Well-Being, was known as the Nutrition Services Branch, part of the Division of Public Health.
Use the link below to review the system reports from 1997 to 2012 including state and county-specific data on maternal and child health indicators of nutritional status such as overweight, underweight, anemia, breastfeeding initiation, and duration. Additionally, these reports provide technical information such as data collection and reporting guidance tools for collecting and reporting information on physical activity and nutrition behaviors.
