Training Programs
Automotive Services
Students learn how to perform basic automotive preventative maintenance and routine service procedures. Hands-on training will include monitoring and changing automotive fluids, replacing belts and hoses, tire service, brake work and detailing. Upon successful completion, students can work as service technician, tire technician, mechanic’s helper or automotive detailer.
Carpentry
Students learn about measuring, how to safely operate hand and bench tools, uses for wood in building, work area safety and personal protection equipment safety. Through individual projects and work-learning opportunities with Habitat for Humanity, students gain experience in wood construction. Upon completion of the program, students may work as carpenter’s helpers, entry-level cabinetmakers or construction laborers.
Child Care
Students learn about safety regulations, planning lessons and activities, and will have the opportunity to receive training in First Aid, CPR, Basic School Aged Care, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and other health and safety topics. Upon completion of the program, students may work as assistants in community-based childcare centers, church centers, nursery schools and private in-home care of children. Students can participate in classes at the local community college to earn their childcare credentials which will enable them to be a lead teacher in a childcare center.
Environmental Services
Students learn about personal hygiene in a working environment, general safety and chemical safety, basic use of chemicals, organization, cleaning techniques and strategies, proper disposal of bio-hazard materials and industry-specific cleaning practices. Upon completion of the program students may work at hospitals, nursing homes, private homes, schools, hotels, offices, motels, malls and other institutions.
Food Service I
Students learn proper techniques for food preparation, safety, sanitation, handling, service and storage in the classroom portion of our Food Service training program. Students will also be introduced to cooking and food prep techniques through limited hands-on training in a commercial kitchen. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to seek gainful employment in fast food restaurants, cafeterias, schools, hospitals and nursing homes.
Food Service II
Students gain knowledge and experience in the operations of food service by preparing and serving daily meals to WSE students and staff. Upon completion of the program, students may work as a cook, baker, line server, prep cook, server, or dishwasher in hospitals, restaurants, nursing homes, schools, hotels, military bases, and bakeries.
Grounds Maintenance
Students learn about safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment, as well as the basics of landscaping, including upkeep of parking areas and fences, proper disposal of trash and debris, preparing and applying various fuels, pesticides and fertilizers, proper garden practices, plant identification, some plant propagation and greenhouse operations. Upon completion of the program, students can work in parks and recreation, groundskeeper, and contractor to service public and private sites.
Personal Care Aide
Students acquire basic knowledge and skills necessary for personal care aide (PCA) to assist with activities of daily living and personal care, such as meal preparation, bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, ambulation, and self-administered medications. Some household duties such as light housekeeping, cooking, and shopping may also be required of the PCA. Training and certification in CPR and first aid are also included in the class. Employment opportunities exist in assisted living facilities, group homes, and private homes and free-lance.
Pet Care
Students learn about common pets, including cats, dogs, rodents, birds, reptiles and fish, and the proper methods of care and duties to support veterinarians, technicians and groomers in their daily tasks. Upon completion of this program, students find work at veterinary clinics, grooming salons, pet boarding facilities, obedience training centers, doggie daycares, pet stores, and as self-employed or freelance dog walkers, pet sitters or pet trainers.
Printing I
Students learn the difference between digital printing and offset printing, how to collate, how to make booklets and note pads, as well as how to safely operate and maintain the hydraulic paper cutter, the Smart 50 Badge system, the Xante Digital Press systems, and software that operates those systems. Upon successful completion of this course, students can work in copy centers and print shops.
Printing II
Students learn about the pre-production aspects of design and printing, including how to set up print jobs using commercial software, digital image editing and printing, and how to prep for production. Upon successful completion of this program, students can work at copy centers and print shops.
Welding
Students learn general welding practices, blueprint reading, fabrication skills, cutting processes and will be trained in one of four welding processes. Upon completion of the course, students will meet the minimum standards described in American Welding Society’s Guide for The Training and Qualification of Welding Personnel-Entry Level Welder and can work in machinery, extraction, fabrication, construction and manufacturing.
