Radon Proficiency Programs
An act of the General Assembly, Session Law 2023-91, became effective on July 10, 2023. Section 2.(b) of this Act, Radon Proficiency Program Approval Rules, requires the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services to adopt temporary and permanent radon proficiency program approval rules.
The temporary adoption for the rules in 10A NCAC 15 .1801 Standards for Radon Proficiency Program Approval became effective February 14, 2024. The purpose for the rule adoption is to give radon proficiency programs the ability to gain approval in the state of NC and be listed on the NC Radon Program website, since there is currently no other avenue on the state or national level for organizations to be approved to certify radon professionals. However, it is not required that organizations certifying radon professionals in NC seek approval. To apply for approval of a Radon Proficiency Program, fill out this form.
