State Operated Healthcare Facilities Helene Status Updates

The NC DHHS Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF) is taking steps to respond to the effects of Hurricane Helene at its western facilities. All patients and residents are safe. Thank you for your patience as DSOHF works to support the facilities impacted by Helene during this unprecedented time.

Current Facility Status

Julian F. Keith Alcohol Drug Treatment Center (JFK ADATC)
JFK ADATC is currently operating a unit at Broughton Hospital until the water and power utilities situation in Black Mountain is restored and it is safe to return patients to JFK.

For JFK referrals, please follow the admission process as outlined on the ADATC website. Regional Referral forms can be faxed directly to the JFK admissions office at (828) 257-6231.

Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (BMNTC)
BMNTC residents are safe and have been temporarily transferred to another DSOHF Facility until water and power utilities are restored and we can safely return people to BMNTC

Due to our need to support our residents of BMNTC, all referrals and admissions to Black Mountain, Longleaf and O’Berry Neuro-Medical Treatment Centers are on hold. If you have questions specific to BMNTC please call the DSOHF Central Office at (919) 855-4700 and your call will be routed appropriately.

Broughton Hospital
Broughton Hospital patients are safe, and services are continuing to be provided. The Broughton Hospital campus is undergoing substantial clean-up efforts from the storm.

J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center (JIRDC)
While the campus of JIRDC will require substantial clean-up efforts from the storm, all residential areas were spared from major damage and JIRDC staff and residents are all safe. Services to the people living at JIRDC continue with minimal disruption.

Food and Water Supplies

  • JIRDC, Broughton, JFK, and BMNTC have power and have a generator in the event power is lost.
  • Fuel supply at every institution is evaluated regularly.

Staffing

  • DSOHF staff from the Central and Eastern regions are providing additional support in our western facilities.
  • DSOHF maintenance teams from Central and Eastern regions will be assisting the Western Region with needed repairs.
