Employees of the NC Department of Health and Human Services have been part of a groundswell of neighbors across our state helping neighbors to recover from the devastating winds that sent trees crashing into homes and torrential rains that left some homes, businesses, parks and highways under water in the aftermaths of Hurricanes Florence on Sept. 14 and Michael on Oct. 11.

The North Carolina Diabetes Advisory Council honored heroes in the fight against diabetes in an award ceremony held Oct. 26 in Raleigh, just days before the start of Diabetes Awareness Month, declared by Governor Roy Cooper to draw attention to the disease that has no cure.

In the spirit of “Neighbor Helping Neighbor', Governor Roy Cooper has authorized an expansion of Community Service Leave (CSL) Policy to allow state employees to use up to 40 hours of CSL for any Hurricane Florence-related volunteer activity.

Open Enrollment is underway for state employees to sign up for the State Health Plan, NCFlex benefits and DHHS Supplemental Benefits Plan. But employees must take action soon! The enrollment period ends Oct. 31.

Flu season is here and DHHS wants you to be vaccinated! As in previous years, DHHS will be offering flu shot clinics for employees, their dependents, and eligible retired state employees.

The deadline for giving to the 2018 State Employees Combined Campaign has been extended to Dec. 14.

Division of Public Health employees participated in the N.C. Crunch event at the division’s Six Forks campus on Oct. 10. At the stroke of noon, a group of participants gathered outside and crunched into a North Carolina grown apple to celebrate National Farm to School Month and to promote local agriculture.
