You may be able to get licensed to provide foster care to kids who come into the custody of the state of North Carolina because of abuse, neglect, or dependency in their family.
Steps to Becoming a Foster Parent

Watch the mandatory Foster Parent Orientation video.

Choose an agency, local DSS or private foster care placing agency. See the links below to learn more.

Attend an orientation with your chosen agency.

Complete 30 hours of training.

Complete the Mutual Home Assessment for foster home licensing.

Work with your agency to complete your Foster Home Application and submit it to the NCDHHS Division of Social Services for review and licensure. This will include medical information, criminal background checks, home assessment and fire inspection.

Complete required relicensure for foster parents every two years.
