Youth and Student Services
We help young people overcome disability-related barriers and prepare for life after high school by delivering vocational rehabilitation services in partnership with local schools and community service providers.
Pre-Employment Transition Services
Beginning at age 14, students with disabilities can begin receiving Pre-Employment Transition Services. Students with disabilities may participate in Pre-ETS without applying for or being determined eligible for VR services.
Pre-ETS is delivered in a group setting and are intended to help the student explore careers, develop work skills, practice social skills and acquire a network of community supports while the student is still in high school. If you are at least 14 years old, have a disability and think you will benefit from Pre-ETS, your school transition counselor can refer you to EIPD. You can also self-refer by contacting the closest EIPD office and requesting Pre-ETS.
Eligibility for Pre-ETS:
- Must be at least 14 years old
- Must have a documented disability
- Must be enrolled in a secondary educational program (traditional or alternative high school)
- Note: Requires a referral from school and signed consent form
Youth Transition Services
Young people with disabilities who need additional support to successfully transition from high school to college, career, and adult life, may apply to receive transition services from EIPD. Eligible young people will work with a counselor to create an Individualized Plan for Employment that specifies the services and supports they require to achieve their goal for competitive integrated employment.
Eligibility for Transition Services:
- Must be at least 14 years old
- Must have a disability that creates a barrier to successful employment
- Require the help of EIPD to achieve an employment goal
- Note: Requires application and eligibility determination
